The main cause of the disease is improperly stored food
There is evidence of a salmonella outbreak in 3 kindergartens in Sofia, said the director of the National Centre of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev, in the studio of "The Day Begins".
He noted that there are periodic outbreaks of the infection across the country as well. The main cause of salmonella is improperly stored food, Prof. Kantardzhiev specified.
Foods of animal origin must be heat-treated, and if food has been left at room temperature for more than 4 hours, it can be dangerous to health, he explained.
Milk must be packaged, and if milk is bought from elsewhere, it must be boiled, because there are bacteria that grow even in the cold and are particularly dangerous for pregnant women, Kantardzhiev stated categorically.
He pointed out that vaccination of children is also very important and recommended that children under 1 year old not be taken to the seaside unless they are vaccinated against measles. Above all, they should not be taken to Northern Greece, where there is a lot of measles.
Around 90% of infections in children are caused by bacteria, so hygiene is very important, said Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev. He recommended using wet wipes with chlorhexidine in summer, because alcohol does not work on enteroviruses.
Prof. Kantardzhiev also commented on tick bites, stating categorically that an antibiotic must be taken after such a bite.
In the capital, for example, we have ticks infected with Lyme disease, and people should inform themselves about the areas where infected ticks are present, noted the director of the National Centre of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases.
